Laura Smith, AIA, LEED AP, WELL AP is an innovator in every sense of the word and has been a leader in sustainable design at CRSA for nearly 5 years. She was recently recognized by Women in Architecture (WIA), an organization working toward gender parity in the professional field of architecture.

According to Women in Architecture Salt Lake City, studies show that architecture is a profession that struggles to retain women. Nationally, women graduating with professional degrees in architecture make up nearly 50% of the graduating class, but less than 20% get licensed. Nationally, women in roles of leadership within a firm are less than 8%. Unfortunately, the percentages in our local Utah community are even lower.

WIA supports the local community of female architects in many ways, including community events, licensure exams for female architectural interns, providing mentoring opportunities and by sponsoring design competitions that benefit the community.

Laura is honored to be highlighted by the organization – she has an incredible design philosophy deeply rooted in environmental issues and long-term economic sustainability, social, and economic vitality. Laura seamlessly integrates sustainable strategies into her projects. She is an expert collaborator and thrives at managing multi-disciplinary teams toward the common goal of creating healthy, vibrant communities.

She brings insight and passion into the way the built world shapes our communities. She is highly experienced in reaching design solutions that increase the health and well-being of building occupants while also identifying ways to reduce energy cost and impact on natural resources.
